The 2020 Prince George's County Juried Exhibition: Symbiotic Presence

November 9, 2020 - January 9, 2021
Virtual Closing Reception: Saturday, January 9, 2 pm

Throughout time, artists have shown the strength and willpower to bring people together, particularly during times of adversity, and help heal fractured communities. This year's county juried exhibition, juried by Shanti Norris, creates the opportunity for Prince George's County artist to explore these mutually beneficial and supportive relationships, and to tell their stories. Artists inspire communities to re-examine, re-invent, and move forward together by showing us that we are not alone, by creating beauty amidst challenges, and by revealing truth, thereby returning us to meaning.

Brentwood Arts Exchange 10th Anniversary Exhibition: MOVING FORWARD

March 16 - May 30, 2020
Reception: Saturday, March 21, 5-8 pm
Artists Talk: Saturday, April 25, 2-4 pm

Brentwood Arts Exchange first opened on March 19, 2009, with a group exhibition comprised of the talented artists of the Gateway Arts District. In the span of a decade, those artists have evolved into giants of the greater Maryland arts community, The Gateway Arts District has national recognition and Brentwood Arts Exchange has become the anchor and an institution for this influential collective. In celebration of this milestone, we have decided to move forward instead of look back by exhibiting a fresh group of artists in the district who are redefining and trailblazing upon the foundation of which they now belong. Please join us as we move into the future!

LAYERS: Cause and Effect, by Maria Gabriela Mizes Hickey

June 15 - August 22, 2020
Reception: Saturday, June 20, 5-8 pm
Artists & Curator Talk: Saturday, July 18, 2-4 pm

The foundation of layers comes from the physical world and applied historically in the traditions of mapping and musical notation. Maps and timelines use overlapping shapes and lines to associate different levels of data, allowing them to contribute to the whole while maintaining their own identity. In the art making process, layers can be a vital aesthetic to convey a myriad of visual and emotional responses to a viewer. This vibrant group exhibition will feature artists Alexandra Arata, Cheryl Edwards, Amani Lewis, and Maritza Sosaya, all of whom use different forms of layering in the creation of their work, while each use the method to develop unique and distinctive outcomes.
